How to use this platform?
This free toolkit brings together resources to strengthen young people’s participation and inclusion in international solidarity organisations. It was designed for organisations seeking to improve their practices to enhance youth involvement as well as for young people looking to take part in international solidarity projects or organisations.
If this is your first time on the website, start with our self-assessment tool. It will help you assess your current approach to youth participation and offer suggestions and resources tailored to your needs.
Otherwise, you can go straight to the toolkit to explore all the available resources.
How is the toolkit organised?
The toolkit is based on three main categories:
- 1. Engagement and participatory projects ?
1. Engagement and participatory projects
Under the “Engagement and participatory projects” category, you’ll find resources to promote youth participation and engagement in non-profit projects. These resources can help organisations improve inclusion and participation in their projects, from the development to the evaluation phase. This section addresses questions such as feelings of legitimacy among young activists and provides tools to explore what motivates young people to get involved as well as why organisations want to include them.
- 2. Governance ?
2. Governance
The “Governance” category covers all the procedures, bodies and stakeholders related to an organisation’s management. The resources you’ll find here aim to transform an organisation’s governance model into one that is more inclusive and open to youth participation and intergenerational dialogue.
- 3. Group dynamics ?
3. Group dynamics
The “Group dynamics” category includes various tools to bolster team cohesion, overcome communication challenges, build a positive management framework and clarify the roles of all team members. Creating a strong team of young people can be crucial to sustaining their continued involvement and enthusiastic participation. It is important to create a positive and reassuring work environment where a diverse group of young people feel comfortable being themselves..
Each category is further divided into subcategories, which are linked to questions to guide you. These questions are not exhaustive and do not have to be answered in a strict order. They are meant as a guide to help you reflect and take action to encourage young people to get involved in organisations.
You will find the subcategories under the “Filters” section on the “Toolkit” page. Some of the resources may appear in multiple subcategories. Feel free to explore them and use the filters to identify the tools that best meet your needs.
